Prayer Sessions
Prayer ministry is responsible for my own transformation as well as the transformations in my family and in many of my friends. It jump-started my healing. I hadn’t even been fully healed when I learned how to minister in the way I’d been ministered to. From my point of view, everyone needs to experience a session like mine.
In my memoir, The Road to Jubilee, I describe my prayer session in detail, but what I’ve learned in dozens upon dozens of sessions and over 5 years of ministry is that each session is unique. No one experiences the same things in the same way. God encounters people personally, and each person is different.
What is a prayer session?
To answer that question, I will answer some FAQs I often receive from people considering one.
What do you do in a prayer session?
A team of two or three prayer ministers provide a safe place for you, the recipient, to have an honest conversation with God. We prompt you with questions, which you in turn ask Jesus. In the session, you will discover how you “hear” from God, and He will uncover the lies you believe and reveal the truth to you. You will forgive anyone the Holy Spirit brings to mind, break unholy soul ties (explained in the session), repent and renounce sin, and receive healing and deliverance. It’s more than that, but you have to experience it to understand.
We rarely counsel or advise.
What exactly do you believe theologically?
My theology can be summed up nicely in the Nicene Creed.
We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.
I would add that we believe in the inerrancy of Scripture and that the spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12) and offices (Ephesians 4:11-12) are still in effect today as there is no indication in Scripture that they were intended to discontinue after the death of the apostles as some believe.
How long is a prayer session?
Most of our sessions range from 1 to 2 hours.
Who sits in a prayer session?
The recipient (you), two to three trained prayer ministers, and the Holy Spirit. If He isn’t there, we might as well all go home!
Who are these trained prayer ministers?
My parents and I are “the regulars”. We also occasionally call upon my brother-in-law, a friend who helped to train me, or a friend we have trained and trust. We choose ministers based on availability, gender of the prayer recipient, and whoever the Holy Spirit leads us to ask.
What does training involve?
Mostly apprenticeship. We use materials and methods provided by a variety of ministries including Theophostic, Sozo, Christian Healing Ministries, Global Awakening, Shadowboxing, and the gentle deliverance methods of Bear Creek Ranch.
Why do I have to wait so long for my scheduled session?
We are not professional ministers. We don’t charge for sessions. We freely give as we have freely received. I’m a wife and homeschool mom of three (sometimes more). My parents have a farm to table business, a health-coaching business, multiple ministries, and a part-time job between them. We are busy, and it isn’t always easy to coordinate schedules and find childcare. We also go through “rush” seasons in which we have a waiting list 2-3 months out. We never know when this will happen. Prayer ministry is first come, first served. We treat it more like elective surgery than emergency care.
My encouragement to you is this—don’t look at these sessions as some kind of magical quick fix. That isn’t what they are. Trust God with the timing. He knows what He’s doing, and everything has a season.
How do I schedule a session?
Tell me you want one. Lol! Email me at melissa(at)melissakeaster(dot)com or fill in the form on my “Contact” page. I may ask a question or two, but really it’s as simple as that to get a spot on our calendar.
What if I live hours away from North Louisiana?
I’ve had people drive as far as 8 hours to have a prayer session in person. If that’s possible for you, do it. Prayer sessions are truly best in person. Let us know if you need help finding a place to stay.
If you can’t drive (or fly), we can do a session via Facetime, Zoom, Whatsapp, Messenger video chat, or Skype. These sessions are still powerful, but they do sometimes lack a little something when we aren’t in the same room.
What do I need to bring to a session?
Yourself. We take notes for you that we give to you at the end of the session. We also provide you with water, coffee, a snack if you need it, and tissues.
What time should I arrive?
On time. Early is okay, but you will have to wait until the time we scheduled to begin. If you’re late, we might be limited on time, depending on what else we have scheduled that day.
How much do I have to tell you about myself?
Only what you want to share. That being said, everything you share in a session is kept strictly confidential. The notes we make for ourselves are destroyed at the end of each session. We never put your name on them. We never talk about you afterward. We usually don’t even remember much of what you tell us. Most of what we remember centers around the amazing things God does for you.
Do keep in mind that it’s often healing to talk. Listening is part of what we do. And if the Holy Spirit brings something up in your session that you don’t like to think about or discuss, it’s in your best interest to address it then and there. Trust us—having ministered to drug addicts, former prostitutes, sex addicts, porn consumers, ex-convicts, ministers, people with serious mental illness, and a handful of people in the public eye, we’ve heard it all. No offense, but your life story isn’t likely to stand out. Even if it does, that isn’t how we’ll know you after the session. We’ll know you as the person you are becoming in Christ.
